1500-luvun lopulla Linnosaaren vartioasemalla sotilas valvoi Orivirran kapeikkoa, tärkeää Saimaan vesireittien solmukohtaa. Vuonna 1592 linnake vallattiin ja tuhottiin, ja siitä jäi jäljelle vain kivet sekä maisemaan sulautunut tarina.
